Nursing Workforce Diversity Steering Committee |
The steering committee reviews and coordinates work group project proposals and recommends funding sources for the projects that will be housed and operated by the Oregon Center for Nursing.
Current members represent these organizations: Oregon Center for Nursing; Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing; National Association of Hispanic Nurses; Oregon Health & Science University (Portland and Ashland campuses); Northwest Health Foundation; Portland Community College; Workforce Improvement with International Nurses (WIN); Oregon Health & Science University-Ashland; and Providence Health Systems.

Nursing Student Admissions Database Project |
The Nursing Student Admissions Database (NSAD) Workgroup's proposed project received pilot year funding in fall 2007. The goal is to develop a database to begin annually collecting and accurately reporting the "true" numbers (omitting duplicate applicants) of nursing school application and admissions statistics as well as applicant demographic information (e.g., race/ethnicity, age, gender) and enrollment trends for Oregon's 21 associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs and schools (see reverse). Funding for the NSAD Pilot Project is provided by the Oregon Workforce Investment Board via the Department of Community Colleges & Workforce Development, Employer Workforce Training Fund.

Recruitment and Retention Workgroup |
The Recruitment & Retention Workgroup has developed a proposal, Mentoring Students from Underrepresented Populations for Careers in Nursing. The group is currently seeking funding. The goal of the proposed mentoring project is to provide RN mentorship for high school and pre-nursing students from underrepresented populations who are interested in pursuing nursing careers.

Curriculum and Staff Development Workgroup |
The Curriculum & Staff Development Workgroup (CSDWG) focuses on culture and cultural competence in nursing practice. The CSDWG recently received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Northwest Health Foundation national initiative, Partners Investing in Nursing's Future to begin a two-year mini-granting program, Nurturing Cultural Competency in Nursing (NCCN). Mini-grants have been awarded to nursing students, nursing faculty and practicing nurses in all settings. Funds are used to develop demonstration projects to improve cultural competency in nursing, building from best practices.
